The Whitest Boy Alive / Geoff McFetridge

October 30, 2008

I’ve been hooked on The Whitest Boy Alive , an indie band from Berlin, ever since I first saw the video for their song Golden Cage. Not only is the animation pretty amazing, the song is rad too. I’m not usually a fan of indie stuff, but there’s something really likable about these guys. This poster (above) and the animation for the Golden Cage clip were created by Geoff McFetridge. I love his work. He’s also responsible for the Brushfire Records logo, something you may recognize. I really enjoy his style and philosophy, I’ll be posting more on him for sure! To see what I mean watch this.

Knitting is cool

October 29, 2008

I don’t know what it is about robots, I think they’re pretty sweet. Lots of people are producing ‘monster toys’ lately, but I think Jessica Hutchison’s robot is a winner. I’ve had some handmade monsters on the go for a while now (will put them up soon) it’s a lot of fun making a drawing come to life but to knit them, that’s a skill I haven’t yet acquired. Thought up Jessica Hutchinson, brought to life by Lily Dustbin, this guy is the first she’s made so no doubt he’ll have some friends soon.

Toys on Roids

October 29, 2008

Polaroids are a rare commodity these days. It’s really cool to see such enthusiasts as Sean Tubrity keeping them alive with his Toys on Roids series. I love the sets he creates with wicked lighting, props and details, not to mention the the most random of toys! He definitely inspires one to help Save Polaroid. Have a look through some of his shots they’re bound to make you smile.

ISO50,Tycho,Scott Hansen: All the same genius

October 27, 2008

I couldn’t make a blog without posting something from this guy. Basically one of the most inspirational beings I’ve come across. I actually bought this Northern Lights poster (for my girlfriend) and is hanging hanging in my living room. He produces both music and graphic art, and I love how seamlessly they seem to flow with one another. His rich, highly detailed designs are almost kinetic and combined with his music it’s a pretty mesmerizing experience.

Minilogue, Vimeo and HD

October 25, 2008

Minilogue- Animals (Stills)

Some time ago I discovered this stop frame animation (on a whiteboard) by Kristofer Ström. It wasn’t until signing up to Vimeo that I came across his latest work (above) for Minilogue in HD! HD is something I didn’t know too much about until recently, being used to the quality of YouTube videos, Vimeo’s HD videos on a 24 inch iMac is AMAZING! Kristofer Ström definitely knows his stuff when it comes to this sort of animation, I love how he’s animated over film in a Roger Rabbit kind of way. The motion tracking and blurring effect to get that ‘depth of field’ look is so good!

I’d love to post the actual video, but unfortunately it can’t be HD (if I post it) and it’s a funny little size, so, until they figure that out I totally recommend a look at the full screen, HD version right here. Thanks Vimeo!

Ghostpatrol: Pencil on Pencil

October 23, 2008

As the first post on this blog, what better way to set the tone with a cool, innovative illustration by Ghostpatrol. I really like using pencil, it takes me back to school, and all those skecthes I did on the surface of the tables. Just add an orbital sander and viola, the pencil is the canvas!
